Release of Guidance on Implementing the MHPSS Principles of the Murad Code
The Institute for International Criminal Investigations (IICI) is pleased to announce the publication of a new resource: Guidance on Implementing the MHPSS Principles of the Murad Code.
The Murad Code captures the minimum mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) standards that must be met before, during and after any engagement with survivors to gather or use information about systematic and conflict-related sexual violence (SCRSV).
The guidance translates these standards into concrete, practical actions applicable across settings and resource levels. It covers support mapping and vetting, referral conversations with survivors, alternatives for resource-constrained contexts and managing vicarious trauma among information-gatherers.
This does not always require large budgets or complex systems – but it does require coordination, survivor-centred planning, competence and clarity that MHPSS is a precondition for ethical, safe and effective information-gathering, not an afterthought.
The guidance is available in English, Arabic, French, Spanish and Ukrainian.
